Our newest Brave Star True Straight 14oz Indigo Herringbone Japan Selvage Denim is a superb indigo herringbone weave. This is one of the most technical and difficult weaves to master due to the precise nature of the loom setup. The pattern is achieved by reversing the direction of the twill weave at regular intervals, creating a zigzag effect. To create a herringbone pattern, the weft thread (horizontal) goes over and under two or more warp threads (vertical) in a repeated sequence. This sequence is then inverted every few threads, creating the characteristic zigzag. The loom must be precisely set up to ensure that the inversion of the twill direction happens at the correct intervals, which requires careful planning and a skilled hand. The herringbone weave results in a fabric that has a distinctive, textured feel, with a raised structure that is tactile and visually engaging. This weave is known for its durability and strength, making it suitable for high-quality work wear denim garments that are meant to last.
  • Tan top stitching with a full grain leather patch and antique brass hardware.
  • Sewn & chain stitched in all the right places on vintage Union Special, Reece & Singer machines.
  • A & E core spun poly thread for maximum strength & durability.
  • Embroidered star insignia on the right back pocket represents ‘Made in America’ status.
  • Button fly with double prong, donut style buttons. Old style pocket rivet burrs.
  • All hardware is made in Kentucky.
  • Leather back patches are cut & stamped in Los Angeles & waistband label is woven locally in Los Angeles.
  • Every aspect of the production is US made in Downtown Los Angeles.

Quality with Practicality

I love traditional Selvedge Denim as much as he next. That said I keep reaching for my HK pairs with just a smidge of stretch and the oh so convenient zipper fly. The raw denim with different colors are fire.

Best Pair of Jeans Bar None

These jeans don’t just look good, they are durable, incredibly well-made, and super comfortable. It is rare to find all those things in the same pair of jeans. While there may be jeans out there that claim to be all these things at a lower price point, but I would be wary of such claims. Hiroshi Kato know their denim and clearly take pride in their work. This will most certainly not be the last pair of jeans or other garments I purchase. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
